Seen on a day safari to
Pilanesberg National Park - 2008.08.06 with Catherine
This was on the latest trip - saw lions & black rhino twice
Saw the prints and tracked these
2 males to the water and back. Lost them just before Tshwene - it is a tar
road. At
7h28 we found them just
before they crossed. The total sighting only lasted 4 minutes, and the were
gone in the tall grass.
Then 7h37 we found 2 young males just over the hill on Motlobo. One started
stalking a Kudu female,
but she barked and made herself scarce. The 2 then walked down and crossed
Tshwene 100m from
where the 2 older males crossed 20 minutes before and disappeared.
Total sighting 15 minutes. Cars about 7 by then, and 2 trucks, all behind
us.

Male Warthog at Pilanesberg Centre. It's cheeky and aggressive, probably thanks to people feeding it.
Black rhino and calf, NE of Malatse dam. Only the 2nd time ever that I saw
black rhino 2x/day. Out of
the last 7 days I have seen them 5 days, including my first multiple sighting.
Normally I get only about 1 in 5.
Young waterbuck E of Malatse, about 12 of them close to the road.
Troop of about 60 baboons at the top Tilodi dam. There were an incredible number of youngsters.
It was an absolute fantastic day, but unfortunately spoiled by local and
foreign daytrippers getting out of their
cars to take pics of the Elephants a few metres away, sitting on their roofs
and windows, playing Rommel
by sticking heads and bodys out of sunroofs, and very sadly a BEE operator
allowing his guests to
feed the vervet monkeys naartjies. It is only the 2nd time I've ever seen
more than 10 incidents.
