"The safari was everything that I imagined. Spotting those elephants from the look out and then tracking them down was brilliant. I felt like we were truly “hunting” and it was thrilling to finally find them. Then to spend over an hour following them with no other vehicles was spectacular. I am enclosing a picture of the “ellys”. Make sure you tell your clients that it was taken without a telephoto lens…(now that is CLOSE!)

Nan- PCV Cameroon" 15 Oct 2004 tripThis is THE trip I do myselves and is absolutely worth it (of course!) Pilanesberg is the Park in SA with the highest density as well as geatest variety of animals /square km. It is the closest game reserve to Gauteng with the Big 5 and it is malaria free. Not only has it got an abundance of animals and bird life, the views are breathtaking... Everyone that has been to all the other top Parks in Africa agrees that this is the most species you can see in the shortest time. It is by far my favourite park in Africa.
Pilanesberg National Park is about 2 hours from Pretoria and 2 & 1/2 hours from Jo'burg. .... most the park is located in an "extinct volcano". Technically it is actually a ring dyke complex that had some volcanic action. There is only a few in the world. Pilanesberg is most definately the best preserved.
One of the most amazing sights I have seen - Pilanesberg; Friday 26 Sept 2003. After pushing a tree over, this elephant dug all around the roots for about 15 minutes. It then used its tusk to try and get the root out - and I missed the shot ! About 5 minutes later he did it again, this time successfully getting the root out. Even after seeing 1000's of elephants over the years; some doing amazing things; this was just an absolute fantastic experience. And still amazing - March 2008!Why go to Pilanesberg with me?
