Flights, Flight Specials and Departure Tax

We are not specialists in this field right. But we will put a good deal if you know about one, let us know!
In South Africa it works like this - the closer you book to the departure time the more expensive it gets.

Current SA Airlines:

Let's make this clear - travel agents can't book the budget flights! If you want this price you have to do it yourself. I 've given you the information. Whether you want to use it is up to you. Don't expect me to book you on numerous flights and hold your hand - you can do it all online yourself! And NO, we don't book flights.....I really can't understand why I when I have taken a lot of time to put info on, I get calls at 10pm at night wanting to book flights, wanting the Saudi Embassy's bank account number, wanting to know what the 2008 school terms are.... and so on & so on....YES, this does happen on a near daily basis!.

Mango - a SAA sub - www.flymango.com. Haven't flown them yet but they've had incredible bad reports since starting to operate 3 months ago....will try them next month. The site is sometimes just not operating BUT they seem to have the best current rates for advance bookings. The flight search doesn't work too well for return flights, but for single flights it's great. Jo'burg to CT & Durban, and CT to Durban &Bloemfontein. Booking Jo'burg - CT 30 days in advance 27 Aug 2007 for 27 Sept from R450 for the really early flight, others are R598.

Nationwide - NOT OPERATING FROM 29/4/2008
Site is www.flynationwide.co.za - Was my favourite domestic airline. Main routes Jo'burg to CT, Durban, George, Port Elizabeth but also the only other than SAA doing Nelspruit. Also Livingstone (Vic Falls Zambian side) and Gatwick London.
Booking Jo'burg - CT 30 days in advance 27 Aug 2007 for 27 Sept from R523.

One Time: Normally the cheapest airline is One Time with flights from Jo'burg to Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, East London, Port Elizabeth & George with some flights between the secondary cities- www.1time.co.za
Booking Jo'burg - CT 30 days in advance 27 Aug 2007 for 27 Sept from R549. Most definately the best prices at the moment, with taxes included. You couldn't book online from overseas, but that was 2 years ago.

Kulula - Main Competition to SAA - BA sub - www.kulula.com
Jo'burg to Cape Town, Durban, George,
Port Elizabeth, Mauritius, Ndola, Harare, George, Windhoek, Lusaka. Then also Durban to Cape Town. Very very important is that if you want to leave from Sandton or Randburg for Cape Town or vice versa that you can fly from Lanseria. If you are challenged, then please do fly from OR Terrible, 'cause you will get stuck in traffic & miss your flight. Take note you foreigners.... Lanseria is the place to fly from, especially if you stay at the Misty Hills Hotel - then it is about 8 km's away with no traffic!!You can book online from overseas, but have to send a fax. Booking Jo'burg - CT 30 days in advance 27 Aug 2007 for 27 Sept from R651 one way, Lanseria - CT R558

SAA - Main domestic carrier - www.flysaa.com
Booking Jo'burg - CT 30 days in advance 27 Aug 2007 for 27 Sept from R658 one way
with the New Saver fares, thanks to the competition.
Just a note regarding SAA. From personal experience they suck. They have a real hard ass attitude - if you book a ticket and there is 1 letter misspelled or left out you have to buy a new ticket. Travel agents also won't change your ticket because of this - they will be held responsible for a new ticket if there is a bugger up. This means that you have to inconvenience yourself and go change at an airport if you want a change. Now just to add; in 2004 my girlfriend flew with them paying US$10 000 for a business class ticket Atlanta - Johannesburg. She couldn't even get a yoghurt as it was outside meal times as she was sleeping during the serving time - she was already travelling 18 hours. And guess what; her meal was apparently given to someone else! They also wouldn't take her credit card for an onboard duty free purchase - they claimed there was too much fraud. This is now saying this to someone who has paid 8 times the average ticket price. To top it they had a really shitty attitude when ringing the bell for service; the crew were hostile. They also refused to give her more than a cup of water a time. They were each  drinking 1,5 l bottled water though. Sites like www.dontflysaa.com was registered. I 'm pretty keen to register www.saasucks.co.za myself.... For a laugh look at http://www.huntingreport.com/temp_saa.cfm

Velvet Sky - New from April 2011, so no idea. Will try them in May 2011- http://www.flyvelvetsky.com/
Jo'burg to Cape Town and Durban only

Don't book through us - book online.  BUT PLEASE NOTE AGAIN: travel agents can't book the budget flights!
Taxes is R79 for departure and from November 2000 there ways an additional R100 W.C. tax lovingly refered to as the toilet tax by the industry - what it is for no one knows except maybe a couple of Swiss Bankers.

Departure tax from Vic Falls and Harare: US$ 30 specificly in $ - not equivalent
